Captain Panagiotis Karavas, HN
Captain Panagiotis (Panos) Karavas HN graduated from the HN Naval Academy in 1990. He holds two master’s degrees in Electrical Engineering and in Applied Physics (with Distinction) from the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) Monterey CA.
His operational assignments include service for more than twelve years aboard mainly Frigates (FFGH) as a Weapons officer, and as an Executive Officer. He was the Commanding Officer of a Gunboat HS Polemistis (P-61) and HS Spetsai (F-453) a MEKO class Frigate (ESSM equipped).
He was introduced to the NSPO in 2005, when he was assigned for two years as the Missile Division Department head in Salamis Naval Station (acting as the Technical POC). He later served as the Director of Fleet Weapons in the Hellenic Navy Fleet HQ. Additionally his staff assignments include a tour as Aid de Camp to the Chief of the Hellenic Navy General Staff (2009). Before being stationed in NSPO in 2010 he acted as the SPOC for Greece. During his 2010-2013 tour in NSPO as a National Deputy he was also the ITAWG chairman and Reconciliation manager. After his tour as a CO of HS Spetsai he was assigned to the office of the Chief of the Hellenic Navy as the Deputy Director (2015-2017).
Since August 2017 he is the Deputy Project Manager International of NSPO.
He has advance knowledge of English and limited knowledge of French. His hobbies include running, skiing and other sports as well as traveling.
Captain P. Karavas HN is married to Eleni Gkougkouli and they have a twenty year old daughter Olga.
